Effects of Eucalyptus Essential Oil in Post-COVID Syndrome: A Pilot Study

Objective: Post-COVID syndrome is the persistence of signs and symptoms that develop during or after COVID-19 infection for longer than 12 weeks, which cannot be explained by an alternative diagnosis. This study aimed to examine effects eucalyptus (Eucalyptus globulus) aromatherapy oil on dyspnea, back pain, anxiety in patients with post-COVID syndrome.Methods: The included diagnosed at chest diseases outpatient clinic Adana City Training Research Hospital. Before application, as components syndrome, dyspnea was evaluated using modified Medical Council (mMRC) scale, pain Visual Analog Scale (VAS), Beck Anxiety Inventory (BAI). Results: A total 15 individuals, whom 11 were female (73.3%) 4 male (26.7%), study. mean age 45.7±10.7 years, body mass index 24.7±3.4. post-treatment values mMRC, VAS, BAI statistically significantly decreased compared pre-treatment evaluation. Conclusion: Eucalyptus inhalation found effective recovery from symptoms, such anxiety, affect many people across world can cause labor financial losses. Therefore, we recommend considering use this complementary treatment follow-up these patients.
